The Things That Change (2021) by Célia Hay
Video installation at Jeune Création 71 at Fondation Fiminco in Paris

Duration 14 minutes, digital HD colour 16/9, starring Stephanie Sant, original soundtrack by Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary)
Ghosts, psychaedelism, and drifting. A phantasmagoric film capturing a mysterious ritual washing by night. As the splashing gesture is repeated, water begins turning darker and darker. Through hypnotic movements, the film changes through the form of rhythmic fluidity. Almost like in some acid trip, once the water becomes unrecognisable do we then see this transformation of the body and self fading into the night and thus becoming invisible to the viewer.

trailer

‘The Procession of Disappearance’ was a collective performance dealing with elements that are disappearing and have disappeared from the island of Gozo, in Malta, whether it is the erosion of landscapes with the collapsing of the Azure Window (Tieqa tad-Dwejra), the Gozitan dialect disappearing, or forgotten legends. The idea of that procession was not to mourn the disappearance of those fragile things, but to celebrate their ephemeral nature. As the procession went on, a series of rituals inspired by the island’s stories and the feeling of disappearance took place.
